The Highlands

Loch Ness

Loch Ness is a large Loch in the Highlands of Scotland.  Loch means lake in Gaelic, the native tongue of Scotland.  Loch Ness is the second biggest Loch in Scotland.

Loch Ness is most famous for the Loch Ness monster.  The Loch Ness Monster is known as "Nessie".

Nessie Land is the place where you can learn all about Nessie.  There are exhibits about the monster.  There is also an adventure playground, Nessie Cave, model railway and an awesome gift shop!

Tulloch Castle

We are going to be staying near Loch Ness in a real castle.  Tulloch Castle is over 500 years old!

MacLennan

We are going up to this area of Scotland as this is where my family came from before they moved to New Zealand about 100 years ago.  In Scotland, families belong to Clans.  Our Clan is the MacLennan Clan and lived in Strathconan, Ross-Shire.

This is our family tartan.

This is our family crest.  It is a picture of a demi piper.  Dum Spiro Spero is latin and it means "While I breathe I hope"

We also have a clan plant which is called furze.  We know furze as gorse here in New Zealand!
